I so enjoy working with low-key photos with overhead lighting. There is something about being able to control what the view is allowed to see that really appeals to my eye. I love photos that make me have to guess what lies in the dark shadow areas. This can be done in almost any style of photo but my favorite is with overhead lighting.
For tonight’s photo we placed our key light high above Shannon on a light stand. In order to control the amount of spill the light produced I place a medium grid on and then used a diffuser to soften the light. I wanted the light to wrap around Shannon’s figure a little and that was the reasoning behind the diffuser.
