New project

As I stated nearing the end of my last project wrapping up in 2015 I would like to start working with paper negatives. The exposure times when working with a medium like paper is much longer. I would like to start playing with longer exposure times just to get an idea of which way I want the project to go. I will start using longer times with my digital camera and then once I feel more comfortable I will move on to working with my old field cameras. I need to get everything ordered for my dark room in preparation for the project. I will order some fresh chemicals this weekend which will allow me to catch up on processing some film I’ve had in the freezer for a couple of years now.

The idea I would really like to explore was brought about by a feeling I had the other day while reflecting on my age. I’m not old persa but I am getting wiser as every year passes. When I was young I saw everything mostly as black or white. As I get older I see that only some rules are black or white while others are shades of grey. In this thinking I would like to explore long exposure portraiture in which some aspects of the image will have very crisp lines but others will have a very blurred line much like our rules of social obedience. I don’t want the images to be soft in focus just blurred by the amount of time allowed to pass as the shutter is open.

If anyone has a good recommendation on a good set of chemicals for working with paper I would love to hear from you. Please drop me a quick line and let me know you experience and why you like the set of developers you use.

Until I have something more to report,

My Nude Year: Day 364 of 365

Seeing as this is Shannon’s last photo concept to be used in the project and think she ended on a good note, pun intended. Tonight we set up a single light with a medium grid and shot against our black drop. Shannon changed her stance a little after the first few shots and the Model T style of pose really made the image feel more comfortable. It has all played down to one last photo we will take tomorrow morning. I have the photo planned in my head and now it is just the act of pushing the shutter in the morning and then editing it after work. I know the day will drag by slowly just waiting to put the image together in Photoshop.

Until then,

My Nude Year: Day 363 of 365

I don’t know how many of you remember Ickey Woods or the Ickey shuffle but for some strange reason when Shannon told me about tonight’s photo it’s all I could think about. Shannon got down into some strange pose and it ended up being a lot more difficult than it looks. It is very similar to a balance posture in yoga. We had to time the photo just right so that I could have her in position and block out part of the switch plate that was behind her on the wall. I have learned to hate that particular switch plate.

My Nude Year: Day 362 of 365

Late last week someone wrote and asked if we could shoot one more photo with Shannon wearing heals. Being that Shannon as chosen these last few photo concepts she remembered to include one with heals on. We had not used this light setup in a while and I had forgotten how much I really appreciate the light it casts. I love a tight spotlight from high overhead. It really forces your eye into the scene just the way I intend for you to see the image.

My Nude Year: Day 361 of 365

Today Shannon and I started a new project that appears as if it will be a fun endeavor. We tried two different concepts and were satisfied with the results. It does seem strange to be shooting for a different project already, almost like cheating on our current one. Speaking of our current project that is in its final days, Shannon has selected the last four poses for us to try. The final day is a concept I have been working on for a little while now so she left that one to me. Tonight she gave me her idea and I came up with the lighting I felt would best make the photo she was looking for. It took a few tries to get her foot position as well as the camera angle correct. It seems funny but these last few days have really been a labor of love and not a habit as it was a few weeks ago.

My Nude Year: Day 360 of 365

Tonight we wanted to shoot with one of the new masks we purchased. We are trying to fit a few more props in before the project is over. We only have a few items left but then again we only have five more days left in the project. The last photo has already been decided on and therefore we only have four days left. Shannon also surprised me with a new see-thru pullover for tonight’s shoot. I really liked the outfit but it turned out to be difficult to shoot.

My Nude Year: Day 359 of 365

Merry Christmas everyone, we hope that all of you had a wonderful day. We had a house filled with family and friends. Shannon made a wonderful dinner for everyone and then we all played games that centered on the day. A lot of the questions were based on Christmas trivia and our team won. It has been so unseasonable hot around here. Today’s high temperature was 81 degrees. Never in my life have I seen a temp in the 80’s this late in the year. I was outside working a little today and broke a sweat.

Yesterday Shannon told me of her idea for our photo concept today. She wanted to be a living Christmas tree. I grabbed some of our large outside bulbs and the star from the tree in the living room and we set up. The photo was harder to capture than I thought it would be. The bulbs really throw a lot of light around. By and by the photo came out okay and tells the viewer what day of the year it was. Oh, the project really paid off today. One question for our game was what day of the year does Christmas fall on, easy Day 359.

My Nude Year: Day 358 of 365

Have you ever poked a bear with a stick? I have and at times it can be a riot. Tonight Shannon and I were having a difficult time get an image I liked. We took several photos but none of them came out the way I was wanting. Finally I was explaining the problems I was seeing and in frustration Shannon crossed her arms and gave me a look. I pushed the shutter and the photo was perfect. I hope you have a very Merry Christmas with family and friends.

My Nude Year: Day 357 of 365

Tonight we were back in the living room to maximize use of our Christmas tree. Shannon put on a body suit we recently bought during the big black Friday sale. I went for an unconventional pose that really made use of her fair skin. The shot is very dark with lots of contrast making her skin pop that much more.

My Nude Year: Day 356 of 365

Tonight I wanted to try and recreate a painting I had seen recently. I set us up in the foyer with a few props trying to reproduce the scene. It took a couple of takes but Shannon nailed the pose. If you will notice her head looks much larger and blockier than normal. This was due to head position and camera angle. She got the painted figures pose down perfectly. I regret sometimes that photos lack some of the aspects found in a good painting. I guess it is the exact precise nature of a photograph that sometimes puts me off.

My Nude Year: Day 355 of 365

Tonight I had an idea for a photo and after we shot it I regretted asking Shannon to complete the pose. It has been unseasonably warm here in the south Republic and she has a really bad headache. She was okay in the pose but when I helped her up the blood rushed to her head and the pain was crippling. I put her to bed and rubbed her neck and back a little but I know the only thing that will really help is for a front to move through.

My Nude Year: Day 354 of 365

Tonight words rang through my head. I couldn’t get a set of poems off my mind they just linger there. Needless to say tonight photo was inspired by the words that echoed around my brain. We set up in our garage with one light to make the scene. I intentionally put Shannon against the garage door so that the viewer would know our location was indeed in a garage. Words will haunt you so I suggest you choose them carefully.

My Nude Year: Day 353 of 365

Today we celebrated my youngest son and father-in-law’s birthdays. We had a wonderful time with family and friends. While going over the project today I decided I wanted to work on some minimalist poses and came up with an idea of a S-curve I wanted to try. I ended up shooting the photo from too high of an angle and it did not come out the way I had planned. I am so tired today after last nights late movie that I am really just going with the image rather than setting everything back up and trying again. Maybe at a latter date I will try the concept again but for now it’s off to bed.

My Nude Year: Day 352 of 365

It is so very late as I write this. We went to see an 11:40 showing of the new Star Wars movie and have just gotten home. It is currently 3:40am and I have to be up for work in a few short hours. It was a really good movie and I enjoyed it. I didn’t know it was so long and thought I would be home much earlier. Shannon must have known since she said we needed to at least take our photo before we left the house. She put on a new pair of crouch less pearl panties, which I know sounds very strange, and they blew me away. I don’t know it they will make for a great photo but I can tell you they are very erotic. I almost came unglued when I saw her in them.

My Nude Year: Day 351 of 365

Tonight our Christmas tree lights and a large package of decorations motivated me. We recently purchased 100 new tree bulbs but haven’t been up into the attic yet to get down the hangers needed to put the up. I thought they might make an interesting background for a close up bodyscape of Shannon’s breasts. The white lights from the Christmas tree combined with the splash of color made for a really interesting photo.

My Nude Year: Day 350 of 365

Shannon went and completed a little Christmas shopping after work tonight. While she was out on her adventure she found a hooded shawl that really caught her eye. She wanted it to keep her warm at work and thought it would make for an interesting photo. In seeing it I came up with an idea. I set up our key light with a medium grid and then a secondary separation light behind her. The deep shadows give the photo a wonderful mysterious feel.

My Nude Year: Day 349 of 365

Tonight Shannon had an idea in mind for the shoot. As soon as she got into pose, it reminded me of a ballerina and I made a minor modification to her hand position. The photo features many broken lines which I love as I’m sure you know. We have been at this for so long now that I think you know a lot about the things I look for in a pose.

Until tomorrow,
