Last night’s print competition with the Houston Photographic Society did not go as predicted in any way. First my printer is awesome and the photos I selected arrived in time however I had printed both images 8X12 instead of the desired 12X18. I didn’t have 8X12 mats ready and so I had to go with the photo I mentioned in episode 11. I also entered the photo from Day 40 of the My Nude Year project. This photo had been entered in a previous month but I was out of opinions.
The event was judged by Jerry Brown; however when they announced the judge and he took his position I discovered that it was not my mentor Jerry Brown. Mr. Brown was a wonderful judge and gave very good commentary on every photo submitted. I got so much out of this month’s competition. The photo of Day 40 from the My Nude Year project was awarded second place in the competition.
One final thought Mr. Brown owns a gallery west of the Houston area and stated he had seen my work and was familiar with it. I’m not sure if that is a good or bad thing but it is good to know that gallery owners are familiar with my work. Getting my work into gallery showings is my ultimate goal.
Until next time,
